Joe Morgan

Joe Morgan

Joe Morgan was a revolutionary second baseman and one of the key architects of the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" of the 1970s. A two-time National League MVP (1975, 1976) and 10-time All-Star, Morgan blended speed, power, defense, and intelligence like few players ever had. His sharp baseball mind later carried over into a long and influential broadcasting career with ESPN, where he became one of the most recognized voices in the sport.

Morgan was also a passionate advocate for civil rights and representation in baseball. He co-founded the Baseball Assistance Team (BAT) and was a vocal supporter of the Jackie Robinson Foundation, often crediting Robinson for opening doors for players like him. Morgan once remarked that Jackie’s courage gave him the chance “not only to play but to be respected.” His commitment to justice, both on and off the field, solidified his role as a modern standard-bearer for Robinson’s ideals.
