Johnny Mize

Johnny Mize nicknamed “The Big Cat,” was one of the most feared sluggers of the pre, and postwar eras, known for his smooth swing, enormous power, and understated presence. A ten-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion with the Yankees, Mize hit 359 home runs over 15 seasons and had an astonishingly low strikeout rate for a player with his power. He missed three prime years serving in the military during World War II yet still compiled Hall of Fame credentials.
In the pre-integration era, Mize proved he could hit for contact and power, finishing second in the voting for Most Valuable player twice with the Cardinals. Later, he joined the Giants and the Yankees, continuing his success at the plate later into his career. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1981, Mize remains one of the most underrated sluggers in baseball history.
